Mother Lode
For all the time I've put into this game (nine months and counting) I never struck on a decent name. A board game about mining and escaping an exploding planet? What do you call such a thing?
I had resigned myself to giving it the same name as the planet on which the action takes place. Not that I had something in mind, but at least then I could make it one word, unique, and easily searchable in the app store.
I don’t recall how Mother Lode popped into my head. I’m guessing it came from the PSN game Costume Quest, which I have recently been playing with my kids. That game is about kids on Halloween fighting monsters that are out to steal all the candy. One of the levels takes place in a mall with a candy store named Mother Lode. It wasn’t until our second time through the game (my kids really love it) that I recognized I had selected that same name. Maybe my mind subconsciously glommed onto the term after the first play through.
Regardless, I checked the app store and was surprised to see the name was still available. I would have thought that all common words and phrases would be taken by now.
To the right you see the title screen for the game. This isn’t final, but pretty close. I will likely add a “Credits” item to the menu. The background image may change slightly, but I am very pleased with how it looks so far.
I am currently working on the final land tile images. I have tried a few iterations, but haven’t been happy with the results. I will post again when I have more to show.
