Back to the drawing board
Mother Lode has not performed nearly as well as I had hoped, unfortunately. The game seems to be well received - most reviews rate it at 7 out of 10. I'm guessing a lot of the reason for the poor performance is that the iPad board game market is just too small. To make money in that restricted space you need something really special (see: Ticket to Ride).
I have a couple options: keep working on Mother Lode releasing updates in hopes of earning my way up the charts, or move on and start work on another game. I’m choosing the latter.
I’ve learned a ton through the year it took to bring Mother Lode to market. Hopefully I can apply that to the new game and achieve more success. The next game will be universal for both iPhone and iPad and in a more well-received and popular genre. It will also have a smaller scope so I can hopefully get it done much faster. Both will be essential if I hope to still be doing this next year.
I’m not abandoning Mother Lode. It’s just being put on hold for a while. I will revisit it later if I am able to become self-sufficient with the second title.
I will talk more about the second game soon.
